He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
