He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him you attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
