He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
