He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to a rich man, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
