He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
