He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
