He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he feareth 9 you ignore him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
