He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
