He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attend to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
