He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
