He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
