He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you ignore him. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
