He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
