He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, joyous; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
