He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
