He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
