He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
