He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
