He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attended to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
