He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage 28 Olives and dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
