He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
