He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
