He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attended to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
