He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe [of God] 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
