The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun shall be darkened, 1 when the stars are thrown down, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 And when the pregnant she-camels shall be neglected; 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 And when the seas are set afire. 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 And when the girl-child who was buried alive is asked. 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 when the records of men's deeds are laid open, 10 When the world on High is unveiled; 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 And when Paradise is brought near, 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 by the night when it approaches 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 with strength endowed, secure with Him who in almightiness is enthroned 20 Obeyed and worthy there of trust. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. 23 Nor of the unseen is he a tenacious concealer. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
