The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun shall be darkened, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 And when the seas are filled with flame 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 And when the girl-child who was buried alive is asked. 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 And when the sky is stripped away 11 when Hell is set ablaze, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 and the first breath of morning. 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 And your companion is not insane. 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 Nor of the unseen is he a tenacious concealer. 24 And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens]. 25 where then are you going? 26 This is nothing but a Reminder to the worlds, 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
