The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is overthrown, 1 And when the stars fall, dispersing, 2 And when the mountains shall made to pass away; 3 when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 And when souls are united, 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 for what sin she was killed, 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 And when hell is further enflamed. 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. 14 I swear by the receding stars, 15 Moving swiftly and hiding themselves, 16 And the night when it departs, 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is this [message] the word of any satanic force accursed. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 For him among you who pleases to go straight. 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
