The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 the Day when people will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Those who belie the Day of Requital. 11 And none can deny it but the Transgressor beyond bounds the Sinner! 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 By no means! Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning. 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 But, the Book of the righteous is in the 'Illiyoon. 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 A written record, 20 Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 reclining on couches, reviewing (the bounties given to them). 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others). 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 a wine tempered with the waters of Tasnim, 27 A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink. 28 The wicked used to laugh at the believers -- 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 And they were not sent to be keepers over them. 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 as they (recline) upon their couches and gaze (around them). 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
