The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 but when they give by measurement or weight to others, they give them less. 3 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 A written record. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 Those who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 The ones nearest to God will bring it to public. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 On thrones, looking (at all things). 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 Its seal is upon musk; and for this should those who crave be eager. 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 And when they passed by them, they winked at one another. 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 And when they saw them, they said: "They have indeed gone astray." 32 But they had not been sent as guardians over them. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
