The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to those that deal in fraud,- 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 But when they measure out to others or weigh out for them, they are deficient. 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 For a mighty day, 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin; 7 And what will make you know what the Sijjin is? 8 A Register inscribed. 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do! 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 Then, verily they will indeed enter and taste the burning flame of Hell. 16 Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny." 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 And what will make you know what the highest Iliyin is? 19 a written record, 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 and, on returning to their people, boast about what they had done. 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 And withal, they have no call to watch over [the beliefs of] others... 33 But this Day (the Day of Resurrection) those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers 34 seated upon their couches, they are looking around. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
True are the words of God the Almighty.
