The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 those who demand a full measure from others 2 but when they give by measurement or weight to others, they give them less. 3 Do they not think they will be raised (to life) again 4 On a grievous day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 And what will make you know what the Sijjin is? 8 The record is a sealed text. 9 Woe on that day to the rejecters, 10 Who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 And when Our revelations are rehearsed unto him, he saith: fables of the ancients! 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 But, the record of the righteous is [preserved] in the 'Illiyyin -- 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 A Register inscribed. 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others). 25 The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations: 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 upon couches gazing. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
