The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to the defrauders, 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Indeed, the record of the disbelievers is in the lowest place, the Sijjeen. 7 How will you comprehend what Sijjin is? 8 A Register inscribed. 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 No one rejects it except the sinful transgressors 12 When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones. 18 But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is? 19 A book inscribed, 20 witnessed by those who are near (to Allah). 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 Its seal is upon musk; and for this should those who crave be eager. 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 And withal, they have no call to watch over [the beliefs of] others... 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
True are the words of God the Almighty.
