The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, 2 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 On a grievous day, 5 when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 (It is) a marked Book. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!” 13 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do! 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 and then, behold, they shall enter the blazing fire 16 Then it shall be said to them, 'This is that you cried lies to.' 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 It is a written book, 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations: 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 The sinners indeed laughed at believers 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 Reclining on couches, looking on. 35 The infidels have indeed been rewarded for that which they had been doing. 36
