The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 The record is a sealed text. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 those that give the lie to the Day of Recompense. 11 None denies it but the sinful transgressors. 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 By no means! Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning. 14 Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Illiyun is? 19 A record of good deeds written. 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 which have the fragrance of musk. This is the kind of place for which one should really aspire. 26 a wine tempered with the waters of Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 Whereas they have not at all been sent as guardians over them. 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 seated upon their couches, they are looking around. 35 Have those who deny the truth [not] been paid back for their deeds? 36
