The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 will be easy, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it). 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
