The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 Then as to him who shall be given his book in his right hand 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not fall prostrate? (Command of Prostration # 13) ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
