The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 and they will return to their people, delighted 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
