The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven bursts asunder, 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
