The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the heavens and al-tariq. 1 And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created. 5 Created from a gushing fluid. 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 on the Day when consciences are examined, 9 Then will he have no might nor any helper. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 And the earth which opens up (with verdure), 12 Indeed the Qur’an is a decisive Word. 13 And it is not a frivolity. 14 Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)). 15 and so am I: 16 Therefore give them some respite – give them some time. 17
