Al-Taareq
The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 No human soul but hath a guardian over it. 4 So let man look - from what is he created. 5 He was created of a gushing fluid, 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 By the sky which returns [rain] 11 and by the earth ever bursting with verdure, 12 Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil): 13 and it is certainly not a jest. 14 They are devising a guile, 15 But I am planning a plan. 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
