Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
