Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 and couches raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and arranged cushions 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
