Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets set forth 14 and arranged cushions 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
