Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
