Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a Garden on high, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
