Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions lined up 15 And linen spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
