Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions ranged 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
