Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
