Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
