Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a sublime garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and goblets laid out, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
