Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden. 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
